Between public diplomacy and global information – the future of international broadcasting

International broadcasters are facing a variety of challenges: new players coming on the market, which was dominated some years ago by few Western outlets such as the BBC, CNN, RFI, VOA and Deutsche Welle. Al Jazeera, Russia Today, China's CCTV 9 and Turkey's TRT international have - among others - mixed up the market and have become influential players in the global market for public diplomacy. The battle between global information and public diplomacy is on. At the same time, the digital revolution has transformed the market; Short wave radio and satellite TV have been all but replaced by a new mobile market, thus forcinginternational broadcasters to find a new business models to survive. Is there no way around the digitization of the media?
