How has the Catholic church influenced your sex life? What happens when women refuse to do invisible labor? And what do zip codes have to do with your life expectancy? The new season of Don't Drink the Milk will explore these topics and many more as host Rachel Stewart and her team hit the road to discover the hidden histories of familiar things – and how they’ve changed throughout the years. The podcast connects objects, ideas, and traditions from the past to debates that are relevant to our lives today.

"Our podcast is less of a history class and more of a dinner table conversation, full of quirky stories and surprising details. We're delighted to have found an audience that is just as curious as we are," says host Rachel Stewart, known for previously creating DW’s video series Meet the Germans. "By looking a little closer at the things around us and where they come from, we've been able to tap into much bigger topics like discrimination, colonialism, health and human rights. We find curious connections between countries and cultures, the past and the present – and wrap it all up in a fun, high-quality podcast package."

Samantha Baker, Senior Producer: "When I was in school, history teachers skipped over the cultural elements of different eras. That's the stuff that gives life color! I love that with this show and the places we're able to visit and bring to life, we're able to add that color back into the story and connect history to people's lives today."

Earlier this year, "Don't Drink the Milk – The curious history of things" has been named "Best Culture & Lifestyle Podcast" by the 2024 Publisher Podcast Awards. The 30 to 40-minute episodes will be published every other Tuesday on Spotify, Apple Podcasts or wherever you listen to your podcasts.
