In the United States, John McCain has won a tight battle for the Republican primary election in the key state of South Carolina. Mike Huckabee trailed McCain by 3 percent with most of the votes counted. Meanwhile Senator Hillary Clinton has won the Democratic presidential caucus in Nevada, leading Barack Obama 51 to 45 percent, with almost all the votes counted there.
