Adler Mannheim win game six for title number seven
April 22, 2015Adler Mannheim won game six of the best-of-seven playoff to seal their seventh ever German hockey league title (DEL). Beating defending champions Ingolstadt ERC 3-1 (0:0, 1:1, 2:0), Mannheim sealed their fourth win in the playoff series and clinched the trophy again after an eight-year drought.
"It's amazing. We are worthy winners. Now we are going to go crazy," said forward Ronny Arendt to ServusTV afterwards.
In front of 4,815 fans, Kurtis Foster, Andrew Joudrey and Jonathan Rheault scored the goals to seal victory. Adler Mannhiem's former NHL star Jochen Hecht made history with the title win. Having won a title before his departure to the NHL, Hecht returned after making 892 appearances in ice hockey's top league to win another win Mannheim.
Christoph Gawlik scored the only goal for Ingolstadt, who caused a stir when they went from ninth to champions last season. "Mannheim played consistently all season and showed what they were capable of. We only scored two goals in the last two games," said Ingolstadt goalkeeper Timo Pielmeier afterwards.
