One area of discussion at the conference is the integration of Muslim women into German society. But a recent event shows just how little is really known about life in some Muslim familes. The country was shocked last month after it emerged a Kurdish girl of 15 was handed over to another family for marriage, and then returned pregnant to her parents saying she'd been beaten by her spouse and in-laws. Those in-laws later sued, in a German court, for the return of a 15-thousand Euro dowry. The case focused attention on some of the more glaring disparities between German and Muslim culture. Our next report looks at a female Turkish lawyer at the conference who's considered a voice for secular Islamic women in Germany.
