Home to Mercedes and Porsche, Stuttgart is famous for cars. But the state capital is also associated with innovative architecture from all time periods.

Das undatierte Werksfoto zeigt den neuen Porsche 911 GT2. Das Spitzenmodell des Sportwagenherstellers aus Stuttgart-Zuffenhausen soll ab Mai 2001 ausgeliefert werden. Mit einer Leistung von 462 PS (340 kW) ist der Sportwagen das derzeit stärkste Porsche-Serienfahrzeug. Die innovative Keramik-Verbundbremsscheibe ist wie vier Airbags serienmäßig. Die Höchstgeschwindigkeit liegt bei 315 km/h. Der 911 GT2 wird in Deutschland zum Preis von 339.000 Mark angeboten.

Stuttgart boasts pioneering architecture from a range of eras, from the Renaissance Altes Schloss to the Art Nouveau market hall and the postmodernist Neue Staatsgalerie. The cityscape thrives on such contrasts.

Visitors who are more interested in design on wheels can visit the city's two spectacular automotive museums - run by Porsche and Daimler-Benz respectively. They feature icons of German car history, including a matte silver Porsche 356/1 roadster and a Mercedes 300 SL Coupé with red leather seats and gull wing doors.
