Bundesliga Matchday Six in pictures
Borussia Dortmund were sleepy from the first minute of the Ruhr derby defeat against Schalke. Gladbach climbed up to second and Stuttgart won for the first time. Here are the top pictures from the weekend's action.
Bayern cruise to win
Bayern Munich came through this away match in Cologne with few scars. Mario Götze's first-half strike and a Daniel Halfar own goal proved to be enough to dispatch a limited home side. Manuel Neuer was forced to make two crucial saves, but the defending champions stay top of the table and are now seven points clear of Dortmund.
The crisis over for Schalke?
Jens Keller could hardly have made his job safer this weekend. Beating rivals Borussia Dortmund at home in the league capped a great week for himand his Schalke team. The Royal Blues started with purpose, while Dortmund needed a kick-start. By then, it was 2-0. Aubameyang's quick response late in the first-half didn't change the eventual outcome.
Gladbach too strong
Borussia Mönchengladbach spent a quiet afternoon picking up three points in Paderborn. After 13 minutes, the Foals were already 2-0 ahead thanks to goals from Patrick Herrmann and Raffael. Towards the end, Gladbach eased off the gas and Paderborn responded with a consolation through Jens Wemmer but it was nothing more than that.
Another blank in Freiburg
The match between Freiburg and Bayer Leverkusen had few highlights - two shots against the crossbar and two red cards. That's about it. Emir Spahic and Pavel Krmas were dismissed either side of the interval, both for second yellow-card offenses. Freiburg had goalkeeper Roman Bürki to thank for a share of the spoils, as the Swiss keeper made a string of fine saves.
Stuttgart finally win!
Stuttgart fans have waited a long time for their side to finally win this season - six games in fact. Now, they can celebrate after beating Hannover 1-0. Daniel Schwaab's first Bundesliga goal barely crossed the line - but cross the line it did, handing Armin Veh a pivotal three points.
Olic downs Werder
Ivica Olic rolled back the years to head Wolfsburg to a 2-1 win against the visiting Werder Bremen. Dieter Hecking's side played more of the football and it was a deserved victory, that all started with yet another goal by Ricardo Rodriguez. Werder now find themselves in a relegation fight.
A bore draw in Mainz
Friday's 0-0 draw between Mainz and Hoffenheim was anything but spectacular. Both teams showed little in attack and gave little away. Neither team could take all three points or move temporarily to the top of the league.
Penalty puts Augsburg past Hertha Berlin
There was only one top-grade scoring chance in Sunday's early match, with Augsburg's Paul Verhaegh tucking away the ball past Berlin keeper Thomas Kraft from the spot. The penalty came after Kraft felled hulking striker Raul Bobadilla with the slightest of touches. Hertha never threatened, and Augsburg booked a one-nil victory.
Hamburg set goalless record against Frankfurt
The good news for Hamburg was that they finally scored this season. The bad news was that their goal didn't come until the 56th minute, meaning that the Northern Germans now own the record for the longest goalless drought at the start of a season. And the even worse news was that opponents Frankfurt scored on a last-minute free kick to send Hamburg to another defeat. The final score: 2-1.
