Dortmund lose at Frankfurt, Hamburg draw with Bremen
November 26, 2016Eintracht Frankfurt 2-1 Borussia Dortmund
(Huszti 46‘, Seferovic 79‘ – Aubameyang 78')
Dortmund failed to build on their 1-0 defeat of champions Bayern Munich and slipped nine points behind surprise leaders RB Leipzig with a third reverse of the campaign.
Szabolcs Huszti fired Frankfurt ahead moments into the second half when he thumped a first-time effort high past Roman Weidenfeller.
Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang leveled in the 78th when he nodded past Lukas Hradecky from Ousmane Dembele’s cross but the lead lasted less than a minute before Haris Seferovic beat Weidenfeller with a low shot.
Substitute Dembele almost rescued a point for the visitors but his curling effort in added time bounced away off the crossbar. Frankfurt, quietly going about their business, are third.
Hamburg 2-2 Werder Bremen
(Gregoritsch 3‘, 28‘ – Bartels 14‘, Gnabry 45‘)
Neither of these two struggling sides would have been happy with a point in the North German derby, particularly Hamburg, who twice led through Michael Gregoritsch.
The Austrian's first was a third-minute header from a Lewis Holtby center before Fin Bartels cut inside and rifled the ball past Christian Mathenia to make it 1-1 in the 14th minute.
Gregoritsch finishes from close range after good work from Nicolai Müller in the 28th minute and Serge Gnabry leveled again for Bremen with a clever run and neat low finish into the far corner shortly before halftime.
Winless Hamburg stay bottom on only four points from 12 games, while Bremen and third from bottom on eight points.
Borussia Mönchengladbach 1-1 Hoffenheim
(Dahoud 25‘ – Amiri 53‘)
Gladbach still haven’t won a game in November and squandered the lead as fifth-placed Hoffenheim preserved their unbeaten status.
Mahmoud Dahoud curled the ball into the far corner from the edge of the area to put Gladbach in front before Hoffenheim leveled thanks to Nadiem Amiri’s shot from just outside the area which left goalkeeper Yann Sommer rooted to the spot.
Gladbach midfielder Fabian Johnson raced clear with 12 minutes left but he shot wide with only goalkeeper Oliver Baumann to beat.
Knocked out of the Champions League midweek, Gladbach are 13th and pressure on coach Andre Schubert continues to mount.
Cologne 0-0 Augsburg
Both sides lacked inspiration in a turgid draw that left Cologne in fourth and Augsburg down in 12th.
Substitute Marcel Hartel could have won the game for Cologne late on but his volley was well saved by Marwin Hitz in the Augsburg goal.
Ingolstadt 1-1 Wolfsburg
(Jung 31‘ – Caligiuri 78‘)
Struggling Ingolstadt, who stay second from bottom, were heading for only a second win of the season thanks to Anthony Jung’s 31st-minute header.
Wolfsburg keeper Diego Benaglio had earlier saved a Moritz Hartmann penalty and Ingolstadt lived to regret their profligacy when Daniel Caligiuri’s deflected effort squirmed past Martin Hansen with 12 minutes left.
Wolfsburg have just two wins in the Bundesliga this term and are hovering dangerously just above the relegation places in 14th. Ingolstadt are sandwiched between Bremen and Hamburg in 17th.
