Champions League: Bayern Munich knocks out PSG
March 8, 2023Bayern Munich beat Paris St. Germain on Wednesday 2-0 to progress to the quarter-finals of the Champions League.
Goals from Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting and Serge Gnabry gave Bayern a two-goal victory in their home tie, winning 3-0 on aggregate.
Cameroon striker Choupo-Moting, who played for PSG from 2018-20, tapped in from a Leon Goretzka assist to open the scoring in the 61st minute. Another former PSG player, Kingsley Coman, had scored the winner in the first leg in Paris.
On Wednesday, it was substitute Gnabry who struck on the break in the 89th minute to seal the hosts' 3-0 aggregate win.
PSG's earliest exit in four years
Bayern had dominated after the break after a tight opening half had seen the best chance fall to PSG's Vitinha, whose rolled effort after a mistake from Bayern keeper Yann Sommer was cleared off the line by Matthijs de Ligt.
The Bavarian side's win sees Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe's PSG heading toward their earliest Champions League exit since 2018-19.
In the night's other Champions League last-16 second leg, AC Milan drew 0-0 at Tottenham Hotspur to go through 1-0 on aggregate. The Italians are in the last eight of Europe's premier soccer competition for the first time in over a decade.
