A fire at a garment factory in Tuscany has killed several people and injured two seriously. The victims are likely Chinese immigrants, who play a large role in the region's garment industry.

Four maintenance workers were killed and one was injured Saturday in two explosions at an olive oil factory near the central Italian city of Perugia, the Ansa news agency reported. It was believed that sparks from soldering work on a silo led to the first explosion on Saturday afternoon at the Umbria Olii factory. Subsequently, a second silo containing 10,000 litres of olive oil also exploded. EPA/HENRY +++(c) dpa - Bildfunk+++

At least seven people were killed and three injured on Sunday when the fire broke out in a Chinese-owned garment factory in the town of Prato, Tuscany.

The blaze, which partly collapsed the factory's roof, broke out in a loft where 11 people were sleeping, officials said.

More information about the victims' identities has not been revealed. However, a number of Chinese workers at the factory were known to live on-site at the factory.

So far there is no official explanation for what caused the blaze.

The flames were brought under control by fire authorities by midday on Sunday.
