A place that was always somewhat ahead of its time is the Reeperbahn - that's a street in Hamburg's St. Pauli district and famous as the city's red light district. The name Reeperbahn comes from the old German word Reep, which is a heavy rope for ships, and in former times this street was where such ropes were produced for the nearby harbour. Also called "the sinful mile" in German, this is a place where the world's oldest profession booms, as do countless bars & nightclubs - but is it still a blazing trail of sleezy delights? Michael Wigge went to find out.
