British Prime Minister Tony Blair invited key European leaders to London on Sunday evening to discuss the war on terrorism. German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder said there was consensus that the US attacks on Afghanistan should be continued.

"We in the European Union agree that for the time being it's important to push on with the targetted military measures," Schröder said.

The politicians agreed that humanitarian aid and an "extensive political concept" for Afghanistan following the current Taliban rule was necessary, he added.

In addition to Schröder, Blair invited to dinner the leaders of France, Spain, Italy, Belgium and the Netherlands, as well as EU foreign policy chief Javier Solana.
