European Union leaders have wrapped up their two-day summit in Brussels with an agreement to press ahead with the ratification process of the Treaty of Lisbon. Irish voters had rejected ratification in a referendum last week. In a closing news conference, French President Nicolas Sarkozy re-iterated the treaty's importance for the bloc. He also said EU leaders had agreed to respect Ireland's request for more time for dealing with the referendum's outcome.
