False alarm: Brussels station bomb scare
October 5, 2016Security officials in the Belgian capital confirmed that the alert was a false alarm after carefully investigating the station.
The head of security at Brussels Nord station, Frederic Sacre initially told the Belgium newspaper Le Soir that officials received an anonymous phone call warning of an explosive device in the station.
Brussels remains on high alert following a coordinated terror attacks at Zaventem airport and Maalbeek metro station in March, killing 32 people and injuring more than 300. The city was also home to several members of the cell that attacked Paris last year, with the attacks in Brussels following soon after the arrests of key suspects.
Major transport points, like rail and metro stations, have been guarded by the military since the attacks.
The alert caused major disruptions on the city's travel network.
