The German government has said it is ready to work with whichever party eventually takes the White House. "We will work to our best ability with any administration," Foreign Minister Joschka Fischer told news organizations Wednesday in Berlin ahead of George W. Bush's acceptance speech. German Chancellor Gerhard Schröder supported the same cautious position and was scheduled to make a public statement after Bush's speech. Most foreign policy experts in the Bundestag, or lower house of parliament, said they were confident of further work even if the current administration stays on for fourt more years. But the left wing of the Social Democrat and Green parties were openly disappointed with a Bush win. Hans-Christian Ströbele told German public broadcaster ARD that the re-election of Bush -- "is neither good for the world nor for a democratic America."
