Hamilton takes pole in Canada
June 11, 2016Lewis Hamilton claimed top spot in qualification for the Canadian Formula One Grand Prix on Saturday. Hamilton's best lap was just 0.062 of a second better than teammate and standings leader Nico Rosberg. Ferrari's Sebastian Vettel was third fastest followed by Red Bull's Daniel Ricciardo.
Hamilton has won the Canadian event four times and secured pole position in qualifying five times. It was the 53rd pole of Hamilton's career. But Hamilton was less than euphoric after Saturday's qualifying.
"I didn't have the same pace I had yesterday, but it was obviously enough," Hamilton said. "It doesn't matter how far you are ahead as long as you are ahead.
The British driver comes into the Canadian Grand Prix 24 points adrift of Rosberg in the drivers' standings. But he does have momentum, having won the previous Grand Prix in Monaco last month.
