After a strike-plagued summer, things are looking up for the German automobile industry, according to the July figures just released by the German Association of the Automotive Industry. Orders for new cars increased by 288,000, two percent over the same time last year and the highest result for July in four years. Driving the recovery are exports, which are up seven percent since July of last year and up 17 percent since last month. But it wasn't all good news. Domestic orders are still lagging at 5 percent less than the same time last year. German automobile manufacturers are hoping to drum up more interest when they introduce 73 new models at the International Automobile Show in September.
