Warming Up and Stripping Down
July 24, 2007It's not exactly streaking -- more like skinny-dipping in an urban setting. Sans water. But authorities in Novi Sad in northern Serbia were decidedly not amused when two Austrians and a German decided to combat the rising mercury levels by taking a refreshing bike ride along the banks of the Danube River.
But a cooling wind in the face wasn't enough for the trio, so they stripped off their clothes to make the most of a full body breeze.
Passengers alerted police, and the three freewheelers were hauled in to face the wrath of the Catholic country's legal system. A judge fined sybaritic cyclists 10,000 dinars (125 euros) each for disturbing the peace.
They're probably asking themselves: Wouldn't it have been cheaper just to get air conditioning?
Perhaps a move to a more liberal Protestant area such as Dömitz?
Fast cars stilettos and smokes
The northern German town was witness to another nude German sighting, when a woman, clad only in gold stilettos, a thin gold bracelet and shoulder-to-thigh floral tattoos, hopped out of a lurid red Ferrari at a gas station.
The woman bought six packs of cigarettes, then climbed back into the vehicle and sped off into the picturesque Elbe Valley. None of the other gas-station customers were particularly concerned -- apparently, it wasn't the woman's first such outing.
"I know the woman from last summer, when she did the same thing," said the station attendant. "It's a bit strange serving her, but she's very nice."
A bystander snapped a photo of her and promptly sold it to a German tabloid, which wondered why someone with a Ferrari seemingly couldn't afford a summer frock.
A better line of enquiry might have been: What about that icky feeling of skin sticking to leather upholstery in the summer heat?
