Terror charge
February 8, 2011Prosecutors issued terror-related charges against the 25-year-old man, identified only as Adnan V., on January 10, but did not immediately announce the move.
The German-Turkish citizen is accused of recruiting on behalf of foreign terrorist groups, including al Qaeda, and of producing and harboring bomb-making materials in his home in Offenbach, near Frankfurt.
Prosecutors said on Tuesday that police found small amounts of an explosive compound and remote detonators when they arrested him and searched his apartment on October 1, 2009.
The man is also believed to have offered bomb-making advice to a third party via the Internet, aware that the person he was helping intended to conduct a terrorist attack.
The three recruitment charges against Adnan V. relate to online videos he posted between October 2007 and September 2008, encouraging would-be militants to sign up with terrorist groups.
After his arrest in October 2009, Adnan V. was held in investigative custody until July 29, 2010, when he was released on bail.
Prosecutors in Karlsruhe did not announce a trial date on Tuesday when they revealed the charges.
