GM Wants to Outsource 6,000 Opel Jobs

US auto giant General Motors wants to alleviate some of the pain of the planned job cuts at its loss-making German unit Opel by outsourcing more than half of the 10,000 jobs to be axed, the business daily Handelsblatt reported on Tuesday. About 6,000 Opel jobs are to be outsourced, including 3,000 at Opel's components factory in Kaiserslautern, and another 3,000 at the production plants in Bochum and Rüsselsheim, the newspaper reported, quoting sources close to the carmaker. A GM spokesman would only confirm that outsourcing was one of the possibilities currently being considered. (AFP)
