Gun ownership in Germany became stricter after Winnenden shooting

Prior to the Winnenden shooting - Germany had some of the most restrictive gun ownership rules in Europe, and they became even more so following the killings. Today - Germans have to be at least 18 years old and go through a tough testing process before they get to own a registered gun, which must be kept under lock and key, and is then subject to spot checks by government officials at any time. Gun owners call the new regulations a power grab by an intrusive state. It's supporters say it will help prevent future Winnendens.
