Leipzig is a hub of cultural and economic activity in the Saxony region of eastern Germany. The city is also famous for the key role it played in the peaceful revolution of 1989. The Nikolaikirche church was the starting point of the Monday-night prayers that became the Monday Demonstrations that ultimately culminated in the end of the communist regime, and the reunification of the country.

Karin Schäuble takes visitors on a tour of key local sites connected to the fall of the regime.
