Murdoch praises Republican hopeful Carson
October 8, 2015Rupert Murdoch, founder of the media empire which includes the Wall Street Journal, New York Post, London's The Times and the Sky pay-TV broadcaster, made his comments on Twitter:
After the Tweet Murdoch followed up with a recommendation of an article in the Politico magazine which questioned whether Obama has done enough for the African-American community.
The 84-year-old Australian-born US resident has praised Carson on Twitter before, calling him "irreproachable on background, achievements, character, vision." Carson has received a boost to his campaign in recent weeks with a series of interviews on television and in print; as Murdoch pointed out, one poll this week put Carson ahead of former front-runner Donald Trump.
In September, Murdoch had commented on the differences in background and upbringing for Obama and Carson: "2 stories. Carson, Detroit ghetto to brilliant neurosurgeon. Obama white upbringing to community organizer. Sincere men, different values," he wrote.
Murdoch has more than 630,000 followers on his social media account. Over his career, his newspapers and broadcasting outlets have taken a strong line on various political candidates. News Corporation has owned over 800 companies in more than 50 countries.
Forbes magazine in 2014 referred to the Murdochs as one entity - "Rupert Murdoch & Family" - ranking them as the 33rd most-powerful 'person' in the world.
The News Corp chairman was received at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing by Chinese President Xi Jinping in September.
