Negotiations over the future status of Kosovo have failed to reach any consensus. International mediators had been hoping to coax Serbia and Kosovo to a compromise ahead of a United Nation deadline on December 10th. Kosovo's ethnic Albanian leaders have vowed to declare independence if the Security Council does not grant the province statehood.
