Northern Germany lashed by heavy storms
After days of sweltering summer temperatures, severe storms have wreaked havoc on northern Germany. Two people were killed as residents are left to clean up after the damage.
A storm front moves over Hamburg
The city center of Hamburg was darkened as a menacing storm front rolled in late Thursday. Temperatures rapidly dropped from 32 to 17 degrees Celsius (89 - 62 degrees Fahrenheit).
Heavens open on Guns N' Roses concert
In Hanover, thousands of concert-goers were left disappointed when the rock band, Guns N' Roses, was forced to halt mid-concert. According to police, audience members were sheltered from the storm in a neighboring building for over an hour until the concert could resume.
Dangerous driving
In the northeastern city of Magdeburg, the heavy rain made driving conditions dangerous. Some drivers were forced to go around fallen trees.
Hamburg airport floods
Sections of Hamburg's airport were closed after the heavy rain caused the roof to leak. Flights at several other northern German airports were canceled or delayed.
Crushed by a chestnut tree
The driver of this car in Hamburg had a lucky escape after the back section was hit by a falling tree. In a similar accident during the storm in Lower Saxony, a 50-year-old man was killed.
