Oktoberfest reveals its official 2018 beer mug

August 31, 2018

Gingerbread hearts, beers, a tuba, pretzels and the Giant Ferris Wheel — symbols of Munich's beer festival — all appear on a white-blue sky on the new official Oktoberfest ceramic beer mug.

The design for the drawing on the mug and the official poster comes from Dirk Lippmann, a graphic designer from Osnabrück in Lower Saxony — and a true Oktoberfest fan.

According to the city of Munich, 70,000 of this special beer mug will be sold online and at the festival at a price of €17 (nearly $20).

Every year since 1978, there has been a new standard mug, which has become a collectible item.

This year at the Oktoberfest, a one-liter beer — known as the Mass — will cost around €11 euros ($13). It is served in a glass mug. Those buying the official mug and getting it filled with a Mass will therefore need to fork out €28.

The Oktoberfest is the largest folk festival in the world. It begins on September 22 and runs until October 7 2018.
