Hoffenheim reported to have sacked coach Gisdol

Bundesliga football club Hoffenheim is reported to have sacked head coach Markus Gisdol. The move comes with the team mired in the relegation zone.

German broadcaster Sky Sport News HD reported on Monday that 1899 Hoffenheim have fired head coach Markus Gisdol. The German soccer magazine "Kicker" also cited unnamed sources in its report that Gisdol had been relieved of his duties.

There was no immediate confirmation from club officials.

The 46-year-old Gisdol had been in the post since April, 2013, when he managed to save the club from relegation to the second division. His contract runs through the end of the 2017-18 season.

According to SKY Sport HD and the DPA news agency, Huub Stevens is set to become Gisdol's successor.

Hoffenheim are currently in 17th place in the Bundesliga, having won just one of their first 10 games.

Gisdol is the second Bundesliga coach to leave his post this season, after Glacbach's Lucien Favre stepped down following a disappointing start to the campaign.

The move comes a day after Hoffenheim announced that they had sacked their chief executive, Peter Retting, who was not prepared to support a planned board restructuring that reduced his responsibilities and eliminated the position of chairman.
