Argentine club River Plate has qualified to this year’s FIFA Club World Cup Final after their 1-0 win over Japanese champions Sanfrecce Hiroshima in Osaka. Lucas Alario scored the winning goal in the 72nd minute, in what has been an even match between the two teams.

Winning manager Marcelo Gallardo was happy with his team’s performance as his side were cheered on by thousands of travelling supporters from Buenos Aires. “We knew they were going to be organized, which they were, but I still felt that we controlled the majority of the game,” he said in his post-match interview.

South American champions River will face the winner of Thursday’s match between Spanish champions FC Barcelona and China’s Guangzhou Evergrande, the champions of Asia. Barcelona forward Lionel Messi has hailed the tournament as one of his “favorites,” while Neymar is expected to return from injury.
