Rollercoaster derails in Scotland
June 26, 2016The accident occurred at M&D's near Strathclyde Country Park in southern Scotland. According to the local police, at least ten people were injured.
"We are unable to give more detail of their injuries at this stage," the police said in a statement posted to Facebook. It is understood those injured are being treated at local hospitals.
"A serious incident occurred at M&D's today involving the Tsunami rollercoaster. We have all emergency services on site to assist. The theme park is closed until further notice," a spokeswoman for the park said in a statement.
The rollercoaster flew off the rails as it turned a corner and plummeted to the ground, hitting a children's ride below and "leaving casualties trapped in the wreckage," the "Daily Record" newspaper reported. "Around two dozen park visitors struggled to right the carriage which ended upside down and leaving riders trapped," it quoted one visitor as saying.
The Scottish ambulance service said six ambulance crews, a special operations response team and a team of emergency doctors had been sent to the park to respond to the incident.
