Strikes at German airports
April 25, 2016Verdi, a large trade union, is encouraging employees at the airports in Frankfurt / Main, Munich, Dusseldorf, Cologne / Bonn, Dortmund and Hanover to start the strike at the scheduled beginning of their shifts that day. In addition to ground service personnel, the fire brigade will also join the strike at some locations. There are plans for a large demonstration in the morning in Frankfurt. The union wants to put pressure on employers to agree to pay raises in the next round of negotiations. The strike was announced in advance to allow travelers a chance to make necessary adjustments, said Verdi board member Christine Behle.
Strikes are set to begin before dawn on Wednesday and last until mid-afternoon. They may include personnel from ground services, check in counters, mechanical workshops, air safety control, administration and the respective airport fire department.
