Berlin is to hold an unprecedented referendum tomorrow on one of the city's most famous sites, Tempelhof Airport. The airfield built in 1923 and expanded by the Nazis was also the main backdrop for the Berlin Airlift -- the massive logstics effort by the US, Britain and France to supply western Berlin with food and fuel when the Soviets cut off the city from June 12, 1948 to May 12, 1949.
