The Frankfurt book fair is the world's largest international trade fair of books. Every year it focusses on literature from a specific country -- providing the opportunity for writers, publishers and others in the industry to present their country's history and culture. This year the guest of honor is Turkey, which is of special significance since Germany which is home to about two-and-a-half million Turks. Under the motto "Turkey in all its colours", some 350 Turkish writers, most prominently the Nobel laureate Orhan Pamuk, as well as representatives of more than 100 Turkish publishers are expected to attend. Few Turkish writers have achieved international acclaim and by the same token world literature plays a minor role in Turkey. So at this year's fair, publishers and authors are hoping to change that.
