'No deal' in gas talks
June 15, 2014"The talks ended without a result," a Ukrainian government source told AFP news agency on Sunday.
"It is unclear when the new talks will happen," the source added.
The European Union had brokered the talks in Kyiv in a last-ditch bid to stop Russia carrying through with its threat to turn off the gas tap to Ukraine if outstanding payments were not made by 0600 UTC on Monday.
Kyiv had said before the talks that it was prepared to pay $1.95 billion euros (1.45 billion euros) of its gas bill if Russia agreed to cut its ongoing price to $326 from $485.50 for 1,000 cubic meters of gas.
The talks were reportedly attended by EU Energy Commissioner Günther Oettinger, Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Alexei Miller, the head of Russia's state gas firm Gazprom.
A cut-off could affect supplies to European consumer nations via Ukraine.
