According to new figures from Germany's federal labor office, the unemployment rate in Germany has fallen for the fifteenth consecutive month. The number of out-of-work Germans dropped by a seasonally-adjusted 40,000 to just over 3.1 million.
The labor office says German companies are beginning to feel confident in hiring again after a successful first half of 2010. The drop in unemployment in September was approximately twice what analysts had predicted for Europe's strongest economy.
Unadjusted figures, which are commonly used in public discussions of unemployment, showed an unemployment rate of 7.2 percent, compared with 7.6 percent in August.
