Let's go back to the people who started all this soul searching, the Irish. Why did they vote "no". Perhaps because of worries over losing their EU commissioner. Perhaps because of concerns about abortion. There were qualms, too, that a more militarist role would be demanded of the Irish. And then there were the Irish fishermen, for whom "no" was the only option.
